Doireann Ní Ghríofa, 'Chasing the Ghost in My Throat' - Introduced by Dr Elizabeth Boyle
Bio: Doireann Ní Ghriofa is a poet and writer. She published six books of poetry, in Irish and in English, and most recently is author of the critically acclaimed The Ghost in My Throat’. Her awards include the Lannan Literary Fellowship (USA), the Ostana Prize (Italy), a Seamus Heaney Fellowship (Queen’s University), the Hartnett Poetry Award, and the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature. In this Dean’s Lecture she will discuss her new book and her pursuit of the legacies of Eibhlín Dubh Ní Chonaill. The lecture, and questions and answers, will be introduced by Dr Elizabeth Boyle of the Department of Early Irish, Maynooth University.

Laura Tunbridge (Oxford University), 'Beethoven in 2020 Vision' - Introduced by Professor Fiona Palmer
Bio: Laura Tunbridge is Professor of Music and Henfrey Fellow of St Catherine's College at the University of Oxford. She is the author of three monographs - Schumann's Late Style, The Song Cycle and Singing in the Age of Anxiety - and the recipient of a three-year Major Research Fellowship from the Leverhulme Trust for a project on string quartets. Her new book, Beethoven: A Life in Nine Pieces (Penguin) is a journey through Beethoven’s life and work on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of his birth. Introduced by Professor Fiona Palmer of the Department of Music, Maynooth University.

Kevin O'Rourke (NYU), 'Brexit in Historical Perspective' - Introduced by Professor John O'Brennan
Bio: Kevin O’Rourke is Professor of Economics at New York University in Dubai, and formerly Chichele Professor of Economic History at the University of Oxford. Author of many books and papers on economic history and trade, his most recent book is A Short History of Brexit (Penguin), described by Fintan O’Toole as “crisp, clear and quietly devastating”. This lecture, and questions and answers, will be hosted by Professor John O’Brennan, Jean Monnet Chair in European Integration, Maynooth University.
