What is the MU Koru Mindfulness program?

Koru Mindfulness is an evidence-based curriculum specifically designed for teaching mindfulness, meditation, and stress management.

More about Koru:
• A concise program of 4 Classes, one per week to accommodate busy schedules
• These are 4 well designed classes with recommended 10 minutes daily mindfulness practice and an online mindfulness diary which provides ongoing teacher support between sessions
• You will learn about mindfulness meditation, stress-management skills, nurturing self-compassion and letting go of the inner critic
• Taught in small groups that allow for a sense of connectedness
• Peer learning and motivation
• Free use of Koru Mindfulness app to support and enhance one’s practice
• The Koru Textbook is available in hardback in MU Library and as an eBook

Where will I find the Koru App?

When registering for a MU Koru Mindfulness course you will be prompted to download the Koru app for free and it can be found in your app Store.  Remember to use your MU email address.
This app will support you in your daily meditation practice as well as allow you to contact the teacher with reflections or questions between classes.

Who is the Koru Mindfulness Program for, Is it suitable for me?

If you have an interest in learning the skills of mindfulness and meditation then yes. It is suitable for complete beginners and also for those with previous experience who want to return to practice after a break or who want to try a new approach.

Koru is a secular form of mindfulness training and is therefore suited to individuals of any religion and none.

Is this a good time for me to engage in Mindfulness and Meditation practices?

If you are attending a health care professional for any physical or mental health issue please seek their advice on whether or not now would be a good time for you to take a mindfulness course.  It may not be appropriate for some people depending on their life circumstances at this moment in time.  Difficulties like a recent loss, struggle with addiction or trauma might indicate that it would be best to wait some time before attending this course.
