2015 Alumni History Lecture

Wednesday, March 25, 2015 - 00:00

'The European significance of the Wood Quay excavations'

was the title of the 2015 alumni history lecture which was delivered by guest speaker, Dr Pat Wallace, to a packed Renehan Hall on Wednesday 25 March.  Dr Wallace, director of the Wood Quay Excavations and Director Emeritus of the National Museum of Ireland, kept the audience captivated with findings from the excavations and the lessons learned from one of the most significant archeological finds Ireland and in particular, Dubliners, in the 1970s had ever experienced.  A close friend for over 40 years of the late John Bradley, former staff member of the Department of History, Dr Wallace shared his memories of John with alumni and guests in the second ever annual alumni history lecture which was in memoriam John.  Attending the lecture and assisting the Alumni Office at the event were MAAB (Maynooth Alumni Advisory Board) members Flor Madden (current chairperson and alumnus from 1988) and faculty member, Ciarán Mac an Bhaird (1998) from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.  An appeal was made to attendees at the lecture to support an Alumni Office initiative to double the number of Taught Masters alumni scholarships this year.
