Academic Integrity Week: Developing a Shared Culture of Commitment to Academic Integrity at Maynooth University 

18 – 22 October 2021

Academic Integrity is the commitment to, and demonstration of ethical behaviour in an academic setting.  As part of European Academic Integrity Week 2021, staff and students are invited to participate in a range of initiatives and workshops aimed at developing a shared culture of commitment to Academic Integrity at Maynooth University. 

This programme of events has been developed as a collaboration between students and staff, including contributions from the Enhancing Digital Teaching and Learning (EDTL) Project team, Academic Staff, the Data for Student Success Project, Maynooth Students Union, the Maynooth University Library, the Maynooth University Writing Centre and the Centre for Teaching and Learning.

Webinar: Turnitin for Staff

This workshop will be delivered by Dave Martin, Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Support Officer at Maynooth. Drawing on his experience of teaching on academic skills
programmes and working as Support Officer in Moodle, he will discuss the following: Why use Turnitin for assessment?; Using Turnitin in Moodle to promote Academic Integrity; Setting up the Turnitin submission portal in Moodle; Looking at student similarity/originality percentages in Turnitin (What do they tell us?); and Directing students to their Turnitin Self-Check spaces to help develop their Academic Integrity.

Webinar: Making the most of Turnitin: Top tips for Students

As a Maynooth University student you may be asked to submit assessments via Turnitin. This is an online system that staff and students can use to check pieces of writing for
unclear referencing, citation issues, or potential instances of plagiarism. This workshop, delivered by Robyn Meyler, EDTL Student Intern, and Dr Morag Munro, EDTL Project Institutional Lead, will introduce you to the Turnitin software. You will learn how you can use the Turnitin self-check facility as well as how to interpret Turnitin’s similarity report.
