The Experiential Learning Office. through its MU Future Ready Initiative aims to enhance the employability and career readiness of MU students through a series of measures. Upskill is one such measure and there are a number of options for you, detailed below.

Experiential learning professional development and employability modules are available to eligible second year students. The key purpose of these modules is to facilitate students in their academic, personal and professional career development, so that they will be well equipped to secure internships and to successfully enter the graduate labour market. The modules, involving a number of employers, will provide students with the opportunity to develop a strong sense of self-awareness, as well as enabling them to identify and develop a range of employability skills, which will be fundamental to their future career.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:
- Gain an insight into organisational culture and preferred working styles
- Develop self-awareness and understand the importance of reflective practice and its role in effective, continuous professional development and lifelong learning
- Reflect on and assimilate information to help inform future career planning
- Structure and articulate ideas effectively, orally and in writing.
- Recognise the skills, qualities and abilities graduate employers seek in potential employees, and how they are evaluated
- Identify methods used to assess candidates during selection processes
- Understand how to exploit their skills in sourcing, securing and excelling in their chosen future career.
ELIGIBILITY
Skills for Success is a 5 credit Elective. Students can choose to take this Elective in either semester 1 or semester 2. If you choose to take this module you will register for one more optional module from your degree subject(s).
Here is a sample registration for a student taking Skills for Success in sem 1:
Semester 1 - 30 Credits Semester 2 - 30 Credits
Skills for Success - 5 credits Subject A - 15 credits
Subject A - 15 credits Subject B - 15 credits
Subject B - 10 credits
Here is a sample registration for a student taking Skills for Success in sem 2:
Semester 1 - 30 Credits Semester 2 - 30 Credits
Subject A - 15 credits Skills for Success - 5 credits
Subject B - 15 credits Subject A - 15 credits
Subject B - 10 credits
Please note, it is not possible to register for Skills for Success and another Elective.
