Thursday, December 16, 2021 - 13:45

The 2021 Opening Ceremony for the 1st year MIEC students was held on Fuzhou University campus on 4th December.

The Ceremony was attended by the FZU senior academics and management, MIEC lecturers, 1st year students and also by the award-winning students from the previous student cohorts. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic many guests could not attend the event in person and sent their best wishes to the new students through video messages.

Ireland’s Ambassador to China, Ms Ann Derwin, congratulated the students on making the decision to study at MIEC and expressed hopes that they can maintain a connection with Ireland throughout their life and career.

MU Deputy President, Prof Aidan Mulkeen, also sent a video recording where he welcomed students to the Maynooth community. He appealed to students to think strategically about their learning and maximise the benefits of their learning.

During the ceremony, Maynooth University awarded eight MIEC students for the best performance in each year and programme, based on their end of the year exam results in 20/21. Prof Fang Jie, MIEC Vice-Dean, announced the winners and MU lecturers Dr Chris Roadknight and Dr Siyuan Zhan awarded prizes to these eight students. The award ceremony aims to encourage the new student cohort to keep up with the excellent results of their seniors.
