PhD Induction Event

Wednesday, October 26, 2022 - 16:15

On 10th October, Professor Delia Ferri and Dr Avril Brandon hosted an induction session for all doctoral researchers in the School of Law and Criminology. Following an introduction from Dr Fergus Ryan, and an overview of the doctoral programme from Professor Ferri, recent graduate Dr Liam Sunner spoke about his PhD experience, offering guidance on getting from PhD to PhDone. Attendees were then introduced to the keynote speaker, Dr Marco Rocca. Dr Rocca is a Permanent Researcher in labour law at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and affiliated to the DRES research unit of the University of Strasbourg. Most recently, he has been awarded an ERC Starting Grant for the project “European Birds of Passage – An Empirical Legal Theory of Temporary Labour Migration in Europe” (2022-2027). Dr Rocca shared his academic journey and “researchers’ baggage”, providing guidance on navigating the PhD journey and perhaps most importantly, advising us that this is a “marathon, not a sprint”. Professor Ferri and Dr Brandon wish to thank Dr Fergus Ryan, Dr Liam Sunner and Dr Marco Rocca for their time and contribution to this event.
