Maynooth University attended the 2019 NAFSA (Association of International Educators) Conference, held in Washington D.C, which brought together over 10,000 professionals in the field of international higher education. In partnership with and under the representation of Education in Ireland, MU exhibited at the conference.

The Minister for Education and Skills Joe McHugh T.D. delivered the welcome address at the NAFSA opening plenary, which also featured a discussion with special guests Dr. Madeleine Albright & General Colin Powell. The Minister was in Washington to attend NAFSA and to also promote Ireland’s education system and look at Ireland’s relationship with the United States.

Daniel Mulhall, Ambassador of Ireland to the USA, hosted a special reception in his residence one evening during the conference. It was a unique occassion to be in the Ambassador's residence with the other Irish institutions, the Minister and some of our most valued US partners. MU also took the opportunity to visit our partner in Washington D.C, The Catholic University of America, as we have an active exchange agreement with them. NAFSA is an annual conference and is the largest learning and networking event for all international educators and organisations. The conference allowed MU to meet with over 40 partners universities throughout the week and is always a highlight event of the year.
