University of Modena and Reggio Emilia
The origins of our University date back to about 1175 , when Pillio da Medicina , a doctor in laws active in Bologna, was invited to Modena by the ruling elite of the City to open a school of legal education focused on Roman law. It is therefore one of the oldest European universities , after that of Bologna and Paris.
