From 15th-17th June 2014 UCD hosted the Joint Conference of Confucius Institutes in Europe. Maynooth University Confucius Classroom in the Language Centre was represented at the event. The Minister for Education and Skills, Mr Ruairi Quinn and Madam Xu Lin, the Director General of Hanban, the Confucius Institutes headquarters based in Beijing also attended. The conference focused on teaching and research of the Chinese language in Europe.
Maynooth University Confucius Classroom offer Chinese Language courses to secondary school students in Confey College in Leixlip. Due to the growing interest in Chinese language learning in County Kildare and the surrounding areas commencing next academic year courses will also be taught in secondary schools in Lucan and Carlow.
