The Justice Committee in the Oireachtas issued their report on the Hate Crime Bill and recommend that the bill be amended to include a demonstration test of hostility and to align with Hate Crime provisions in Northern Ireland. Both Recomendations were advised by Dr Séamus Taylor, Head of Department of Applied Social Studies.
Details of the recommendations are included in The Joint Committee on Justice Report on Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Criminal Justice (Hate Crime) Bill 2021 April 2022
The Committee hopes this report and its recommendations will inform the Minister and result in more robust legislation.
