Spatial Analysis Cluster Workshop - AIRO 'Data for Decisions' Introduction to QGIS

Thursday, January 14, 2016 - 09:30 to 17:00
2nd floor Seminar Room, Iontas Building, North Campus, Maynooth University

As part of the 'Spatial Analysis' Research Cluster we (NIRSA and NCG) will be hosting two workshops on spatial analysis early in the new year. These one day workshops are free to interested parties from the research community and academics within Maynooth University. The workshops will be based on undertaking spatial analysis in QGIS and R.

The first workshop (Thursday 14th January, NIRSA, Iontas) will be based on QGIS - an open source GIS platform (www.qgis.org). This Introductory workshop on QGIS includes:

  • Introductory lecture on the principles of GIS
  • Overview of statistical datasets and sources in Ireland (both authoritative and open-source)
  • Series of practical sessions using QGIS

On completion of the one day workshop users will have a much greater awareness of spatial data in Ireland and be able to execute many of the basic functionality in QGIS such as data importing, data management, data analysis and high quality thematic map development.

(IT requirements: Own laptop with QGIS downloaded prior to the workshop and MS Office installed.)

If you are interested in attending this workshop please email airo@mu.ie to reserve a place. It's quite a hands on session and requires a lot of input from instructors so numbers are limited to a maximum of 14
