We are delighted to welcome Dr Cian Ó Concubhair to Maynooth University Department of Law

Dr Cian Ó Concubhair
Thursday, July 9, 2020 - 10:45

As the new Assistant Professor in Criminal Justice, Dr Cian Ó Concubhair will lecture courses in criminal law, criminology, and policing.

Prior to joining the Department of Law in Maynooth, Cian was Lecturer in Criminal law and Jurisprudence at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford, and Lecturer in Criminal law at the University of Southampton.

Cian recently completed his doctorate in criminology at Centre for Criminology in the University of Oxford. His doctoral research examined the relationship between police and journalists in England in the aftermath of the Leveson Inquiry. Cian's primary research interests are in policing (specifically police ethnography) and criminal law, with a particular focus on police governance and accountability; the role of policing in child protection; and the philosophical foundations of criminal law and punishment. He also maintains a research interest in media law, and the functions and power of news media in advanced democracies.

Before beginning his studies in law, and later criminology, Cian trained and worked as a stone mason on the west coast of Ireland, where he grew up.
