Research Week 2022: Join the conversation

Maynooth University Research Week 2022 will take place from Monday 24th to Thursday 27th of October, and all events are open to the public.

The week features a range of events for attendees too learn, interact and have their voice heard on pressing issues from climate, health care and our digital future. The talks, exhibitions and workshops will take place in various locations across the Maynooth University campus, and on-line. Maynooth’s multi-disciplinary research teams will explain some of their most interesting and important discoveries and projects, covering topics such as climate change and energy, women in the STEM workplace, how AI is helping find solutions to climate change and impacting the world of work.

The events include:
24 October, 9.30am-2pm, Russel Library. ‘The Second Reformation and Catholic/Protestant Relations in Pre-Famine Ireland: Bicentennial Perspectives’ This symposium and exhibition to explore the significance and legacy of the Second Reformation of the 1820s-40s with presentations from academic leaders in the area.

25 October, 2pm-3.30pm, MUSSI Seminar Room 2.31, 2nd Floor, Iontas Building. ‘The impact of MU research on public policy: What we do, what we could do, and what comes next?’ Professor Mark Boyle (Geography) will chair a discussion on the past, present and future of MU and public policy. Panellists include Dr Rory Hearne (Applied Social Studies), Dr JoAnne Mancini (History) and Seán Ó Foghlú (Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute).

October 26, 10am-4pm, Iontas Foyer. ‘Digital technologies supporting climate action and wildfire response’ The Irish Climate Analysis and Research Units (ICARUS) and National Centre for Geocomputation (NCG) and the Hamilton Institute will digital platforms, drones and sensors that are designed to monitor climate variables to support better decision making and situational awareness for wildfire events.

26 & 27 October, 10am-5pm, Room 238, 2nd floor, Eolas Building. ‘Are you interested in health and technology? We want to hear your opinion!’ Get involved in shaping the new healthcare system that brings benefits to all citizens. Talk to our experts, interact with technologies for healthcare and express your opinion on the future of people-driven health and wellbeing.

27 October, 10am-10.30am, online. ‘Library Talk – The Troubles Collection in Maynooth University Library’ This webinar will look at Maynooth University Library’s (MUL) unique collection of books, pamphlets and ephemera relating to the period commonly referred to as the Northern Ireland “troubles” and how the Library contributes to the collective memory and heritage of a society by preserving with impartiality such authentic source material.

By showcasing work from across multiple disciplines Maynooth University Research Week aims to highlight and explore issues of significance to society. The 2022 calendar of activity not only reflects some of the key topics facing communities within Ireland at present, but also explores the future challenges for us as a nation, as well as for the wider global community
