Biography

Dr. Steven McCartney is an Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Management and Organisational Behaviour at Maynooth University School of Business. Steven received his PhD from Trinity College Dublin, specialising in people analytics. In addition, he holds an MSc in Work and Organisational Behaviour from The University of Limerick, a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from McMaster University, Canada, and an advanced diploma in Human Resource Management. His research interests lie in several areas, including people analytics, digital transformation, strategic HRM, and human capital resources.

Steven’s research has been published in several journals including, Personnel Review, Management Decision, and the Journal of Organizational Effectiveness: People and Performance. Additionally, his research has been presented at several academic conferences globally, including the Academy of Management and the Irish Academy of Management. 

Prior to his PhD, Steven spent several years as a practicing HR professional in Toronto, Canada. In his various roles, he was responsible for the design, implementation, and execution of people analytics programs. Additionally, Steven has experience in the areas of recruitment and selection, training and development, compensation, and the implementation of HRIS/digital technology at the corporate level.

Steven’s teaching experience includes delivering undergraduate and postgraduate modules in people analytics, research methods, strategy, and 21st-century skills.
