Social Science

Why study Social Science

Social Science provides a valuable academic foundation for many vocations and occupations. It is particularly associated with careers in policy analysis, applied social research and the social professions of social work, community work and youth work. Social Science at Maynooth emphasises the study of applied social science through the subject Social Policy. This subject is concerned with critical analysis of policies and practices in relation to human welfare and wellbeing.

Students of Social Science learn to explore practical problems using conceptual and analytical tools. You are encouraged to rigorously and systematically scrutinise both commonsense and partisan views of society, developing your skills of inquiry, research and communication along the way.
