The Disability Office, in collaboration with the Education Department and Froebel Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education, have developed a placement planning process for students with disabilities on teacher education programmes at Maynooth University. Most students will be able to manage their disability on placement, however, for those who require reasonable accommodations, a placement planning process which includes a meeting with placement organisers may take place in advance of the placement.
To assist this process, Guidelines for Supporting Students with Disabilities on School Placement have been produced. These guidelines deal with issues such as disclosure, effective placement planning, reasonable accommodations and student responsibilities. The key message for students is that we want to encourage disclosure through a supportive process that involves all parties concerned.
You should contact a Disability Advisor to discuss registering with the Disability Office and support that can be provided while on placement.
