Ranked #1 in Ireland for Best Young University

Maynooth University is recognised as one of the leading new universities in the world, ranked #1 in Ireland latest Times Higher Education (THE) ‘Young Universities’ list.  This success follows on from Maynooth’s extremely strong performances in other THE rankings, including being named among the top 600 universities in the world, and being recognised as one of the top universities for international connections and outlook.

The Times Higher Education Young University Rankings list the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger. The 2019 ranking includes 351 universities. Universities are ranked according to a range of criteria, including research income achieved; reputation for teaching; numbers of PhDs awarded; the number of scholarly publications and their quality evidence by citations; and the numbers of international staff and students. Maynooth is ranked #88 in the world and first in Ireland.

Maynooth's researchers are confronting some of the most difficult problems facing society today; the University is a progressive force in addressing the pressures of the points race, offering a unique proposition to undergraduate and post graduate students in Ireland; and has grown into a global university with more than 1,500 international students from more than 85 countries.  

Tracing its origins to the foundation of the Royal College of St Patrick in 1795, Maynooth University was formally established as an autonomous university in 1997.
