On 2 November 2016 Maynooth University conferred the degree of Doctor of Philosophy on Dr Kerry Phelan, pictured here with her thesis supervisor and Head of Department, Dr Kieran McGroarty. Dr Phelan was formerly a student in the Ancient Classics Department in Maynooth for a number of years, and completed a BA in European Studies in 2009 and MA in Classics in 2011, both with great distinction. Her PhD is entitled ‘A Social and Historical Commentary on Demosthenes’ Against Euboulides, and deals with legal issues of citizenship and rights, a topic which remains relevant even in today’s society. Dr Phelan is currently a lecturer in the Department of Ancient Classics, and we would like to wish her the best of success for the future.
