The Lives Less Ordinary exhibition, which will be displayed in the Stables Gallery, Castletown House until the 23 October 2015, focuses on the fascinating lives of two generations of women connected to Airfield Estate, Co. Dublin. Despite considerable challenges in relation to a woman’s status at the time, forged opportunities for themselves and led fulfilling and globally-travelled lives that many at the time could only dream of.
Drawing on the Airfield Estate’s rich archival material of over 25,000 items, now cared for by the OPW-Maynooth University Archive and Research Centre, Castletown House, Lives Less Ordinary features the lives of Letitia and Naomi Overend, their mother Lily, and aunts Fannie and Helen Butler, and Minnie Overend who created their own miniature estate in Dundrum.
