Dr Adeline Cooney

Biography

Dr Adeline Cooney (PhD, MMedSc, BNS, RGN, RNT) is an Associate Professor at the School of Nursing, Maynooth University.  A registered general nurse and registered nurse tutor; she has over 20 years experience of teaching in higher education settings.  She is committed to implementing engaging teaching and assessment approaches that enhance student learning and success. She was awarded a President’s Teaching Award at University Galway and a group Teaching Award at Maynooth University.  She has led and collaborated in the development of curricula at all levels, including blended learning programmes at postgraduate level.

Adeline is an experienced researcher with an established history of engaging in collaborative and interdisciplinary research.  Her personal research programme focuses on (1) the quality of life of older people living in community and long-term care settings with a focus on “home and finding home”, “identity, story-telling and biography” and “connectedness” and (2) the quality of life and care of persons with dementia and their carers, concentrating on the use of personal biography and reminiscence to support people with dementia to live well. Her methodological expertise lies in grounded theory and qualitative descriptive studies.  Her publications are in the fields of ageing, dementia and teaching and learning.  She was named among the top 2% of most-cited researchers globally on the Standford/Elsevier List 2024.
