Friday, April 4, 2025 - 10:00 to 12:00
School of Education Building

Relationally engaged arts-based research workshop with Luci Gorell Barnes, University of West England, Bristol. Friday 4th April 2025 10 am to 12 pm.
Register here.

In this research event, artist and researcher Luci Gorell Barnes will explore the rationale for using relationally engaged arts-based methods in her doctoral study working with minoritised children. Her study draws on her substantial experience developing arts-based inquiries in social contexts. Luci will use examples from her
research work to focus on creative and relational ways of generating research with socially vulnerable groups and on the embodied ethics of working in uneven power situations. While Luci’s current study is with children, the same approach can be applied in many research and participatory contexts.

About the facilitator: Luci is a socially engaged artist working with those who find themselves on the margins for one reason or another. She develops creative processes to support people to think imaginatively with themselves and others, and her interventions contribute to a range of disciplines including academic research, family support, community development, and education.
