Dr Ciarán Ó Gallchóir
Biography
Dr Ciarán Ó Gallchóir is a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Education (with a Specialism in Leadership) in the Department of Education in Maynooth University. Ciarán joined the Department in 2022 and teaches on a range of programmes in the Department, from sociology of education to research for education leadership.
Ciarán’s research interests focus on initial teacher education, broadening participation in teacher education and educational leadership under the framework of identity, leading and governance. His PhD (University of Limerick) explored the identity development journey of student teachers. He has also led or been a part of a number of wider research initiatives, such as the Higher Education Authority (HEA) funded PATH initiative which aimed to explore the recruitment of underrepresented minorities in initial teacher education, the Erasmus project SUP4PCL which sought to establish School-University Partnerships in Egypt, and the NCCA funded evaluation of the Implementation of the Junior Cycle.
