Maynooth University Science Week hosts expert panel on Ozempic - fact and fiction

Maynooth University will host a panel discussion on one of the most talked-about drugs, Ozempic, on Thursday, November 14th 2024 from 7pm to 9pm.

Titled ‘Ozempic – unravelling fact from fiction’, this panel event is open to the public and will take place in The Phoenix building, First Floor Mezzanine, on North Campus. Hosted as part of Science Week 2024 at Maynooth University,  the discussion will explore the science behind the drug that has prompted questions, misunderstandings and myths.

Two leading experts in obesity research will lead the discussion: Dr Andrew Hogan, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Biology at MU and Principal Investigator with the Obesity Immunology Research Group, and Prof Donal O'Shea, Consultant Endocrinologist with the Obesity Immunology Research Group at St Vincent’s University Hospital. Together, they will explore the science behind Ozempic, including how it works and its impact on health.

Using the latest research, they will discuss how these medications have changed the way obesity is treated. They will also address questions such as:
Does Ozempic cause muscle loss?
Does Ozempic increase fertility?
Is “Ozempic face” real?

Hosted by MU's Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) in collaboration with the Faculty of Science and Engineering, this public event also on livestream, offers an opportunity to gain expert insights and separate fact from fiction on one of today's most talked-about medications.
