New Scholarship Announcement! Applicaation Closing Date 31st May 2024
The Department of Adult and Continuing Education is delighted to announce the provision of our new Adult Education, Inclusion and Social Change Scholarship scholarship funding for the M.Ed in Adult and Community Education.
We are offering five partial scholarships worth €3,700 to those beginning the one-year MEd in Adult and Community Education (PAC Code: MHA92) in September 2024.
Scholarships are merit and experience based.
Application deadline for students from Ireland and other countries: Friday 31st May by 5pm (Irish time).
*Note: if scholarships have not all been allocated after the initial deadline, later applicants may be considered.
Eligibility:
- Applicants who are applying for a scholarship for the one-year MEd in Adult Education (MHA92) must satisfy the entry requirements of the MEd in Adult Education programme and must achieve a minimum 2.1 overall result in their honours (level 8 or equivalent) undergraduate degree to be considered for the award.
- The scholarship application must be accompanied by an application for the MEd in Adult Education Programme via the online portal PAC; a scholarship application only, without the programme application via PAC, will not be considered. Please see: http://www.pac.ie/maynoothuniversity.
- Only applicants who have uploaded all documents (application form, academic transcripts, reference letters) as part of the MEd PAC online application process by the scholarship application deadline will be considered eligible.
- Both Maynooth and non-Maynooth University graduates are eligible to apply.
- The scholarship may not be deferred.
- Successful applicants must:
- Demonstrate a track record of practitioner experience within Adult, Further and/or Higher Education
- Propose a thesis topic located within and emphasising the principles of adult education, inclusion, and social change, with reference to engaging with the community and lifelong learning.
- Signal a commitment to publish or otherwise disseminate their thesis findings to wider academic and community audiences, including a willingness to fulfil ambassadorial duties such as assisting in the promotion of the MEd to future applicants.
Ineligibility:
Research master’s programmes are not eligible for support under the scheme. Applicants will not be awarded more than one scholarship from Maynooth University.
Value of the Scholarship and number of scholarships available:
- The total value of the Adult Education and Social Change Scholarship for each student is €3,700.
- There are five scholarships available.
- In the event that the applicant is in receipt of a SUSI grant, the scholarship will be applied against the balance of fees remaining after the SUSI payment, with any shortfall payable by the student directly.
Application Process: Note: Closing Date 31st May 2024
Applicants for the Scholarship should write a personal statement (uploaded with their MHA92 PAC Application) indicating their suitability and motivation for the programme and for applying for the scholarship. This statement should demonstrate previous experience in the field and state the proposed research area.

Assessment:
Applications will first be assessed by the Department of Adult and Community Education and other relevant staff within Maynooth University to ensure that eligibility requirements have been met. Candidates will be invited to attend for interview.
