PhD candidate in Maynooth University Department of Law Emma McEvoy recently spoke at a ‘Spending Socially’ conference in NUI Galway.
On 15 June 2015, the Centre for Disability Law and Policy and the Community Knowledge Initiative at NUI Galway, along with their community partner Employability Galway hosted a successful conference: ‘Spending Socially- Achieving Social Value Through Public Procurement’ at the new Institute for Lifecourse and Society at NUI Galway. Inspired by the real example of attempting to invite a social enterprise to tender for the running of a café in their new building, the organising team used this conference as an opportunity to network and gather experts and experience in the field.
The event bought together a diverse audience of 50, and a unique selection of experts from the Office for Government Procurement, Maynooth University, the Irish Social Enterprise Network, the Strategic Investment Board, NI, the Ready for Business Network, Scotland and the East Clare community Co-op amongst many others.
Emma is currently completing her PhD at Maynooth University Department of Law under the supervision of Professor Michael Doherty. The working title of her doctoral thesis is 'Facilitating Small and Medium Size Enterprises in Public Procurement'. Additionally, Emma is the Course Director of the Department's Postgraduate Diploma in Public Procurement Law and lectures in Public Procurement Law on the LLM (Global Legal Studies) and LLM (International Business Law) programmes.
