ERC DANCING hosts world premiere of ‘Lived Fiction’ in Dublin

Wednesday, April 17, 2024 - 09:45

On Thursday, 11 April the ERC DANCING project hosted the world premiere of the contemporary dance piece ‘Lived Fiction’ choreographed and performed by inclusive dance company Stopgap Dance Company. The premiere was followed by a lively Q&A with the full cast and choreographer Lucy Bennett.

The piece was commissioned and specifically created for DANCING and forms integral part of the arts-based research embedded in the project which employs empirical, arts-based and legal-doctrinal research methods to uncover how EU law protects and promotes the right to culture of persons with disabilities.

The premiere is the culmination of a two-year collaboration between DANCING and Stopgap and closes the research under work package 1. The collaboration was recently discussed by Professor Delia Ferri and Executive Producer of Stopgap Lucy Glover in an article on RTÉ Culture.

The premiere was kindly supported by Project Arts Centre in Dublin who hosted another show on Friday, 12 April. Due to a technical issue, the premiere was moved to the Lir Academy Theatre who offered a great alternative venue on short notice.
Moreover, the DANCING team were greatly supported and assisted by the School of Law and Criminology and its office team under the lead of Dr. Fergus Ryan.
Following the world premiere - to which the DANCING team welcomed members of the project’s Advisory Board - the DANCING team hosted a workshop on Friday morning to garner feedback, insights and advice for the remainder of the project from their Advisory Board. The event was held at the premises of the National University of Ireland in Dublin and saw Professor Anna Lawson, Professor Bruno De Witte, Professor Mark Priestley and Professor Sarah Whatley attend. The DANCING team were further delighted to welcome Professor Cora True-Frost who joined for the workshop.

The DANCING team now turn to remaining research tasks under work packages 2 and 3 as well as preparing the final conference of the project in 2025.
