Peadar Kirby gave a lively seminar to a packed room at the end of November on the scale of the environmental, economic and social challenges we face and the nature of responses so far. Taking a political economy approach, he characterised the dominant response to date as climate capitalism and assessed the extent to which this is able to address the challenges presented by scientists. He went on to argue for an ecological socialism as the only adequate political economy response to these challenges and interrogates the politics (and social science) that is needed to get us there.
His slides are now available to download.
