David Mangan and Michele Molè have published “‘Just more surveillance’: The ECtHR and Workplace Monitoring” in the European Labour Law Journal. This contribution analyses the European Court of Human Rights’ (ECtHR) decision on workplace surveillance, Florindo De Almeida Vasconcelos Gramaxo v Portugal. They argue that Florindo demonstrates some technologies (here GPS) are deemed necessary to protect an employer's interests, and therefore appear to be beyond scrutiny.
David researches in the areas of employment/labour law and private law obligations (tort and contract), with a focus on the impact of information technology in these areas. Amongst other projects, he has been engaged in Varieties of Industrial Relations in Aviation Lockdown (VIRAL) (a project funded by the EU’s DG Employment), as well as the ERC-funded ResPecTMe project led by Professor Valeria Pulignano (KU Leuven). David is also a member of the editorial board of the European Labour Law Journal and a European Developments Editor. He is co-editor of the Global Workplace Law & Policy blog.
