Maynooth Law graduate Katrina Morrison (LLB, Class of 2015) has been appointed to the US Federal Hearings and Appeals Services as an Administrative Law Judge. Commenting on the appointment, Judge Morrison remarked: "Having pursued mediation since graduation as well as working in the surrogates' courts, my education and experiences have given me this opportunity and I am thrilled to share the news of my appointment."
Judge Morrison graduated from the LLB in 2015. During her studies at Maynooth, she undertook an internship in the Oireachtas at Leinster House working with Denis Naughten TD. For 12 months, she worked with Dr. Marie Cassidy, Chief State Pathologist and Dr. Michael Curtis, Assistant State Pathologist, researching 10 years of female homicide. As a student, Judge Morrison also organised a Brehon Law conference, that was widely acclaimed.
Reflecting on her experience as a student, Judge Morrison encouraged students to be pro-active in seeking out work experience: "opportunities do not come looking for you. You have to look for them and then make the most of them."
Dr Fergus Ryan, Head of the School of Law and Criminology, warmly congratulated Judge Morrison on this wonderful achievement, wishing her every success in the role and recalling Katrina's valuable contribution to life in the School. "This is such a well-deserved appointment and a fitting testament to Judge Morrison's drive and commitment to justice and fairness for all."
