An exhibition entitled "House Portraits" was opened at Rua Red, Tallaght by Roddy Doyle on Saturday March 21, 2015.
The exhibition features a series of paintings of ten family homes in the Jobstown area of Tallaght West by artist Mary Burke. As part of the project the families were interviewed by Mary Corcoran and Beth Hayden from Maynooth University Sociology Department. Corcoran has written an essay "Home is where the art is: exploring the meaning of home in Tallaght West" which is included in a book documenting House Portraits.
The exhibition runs in Rua Red until April 11th, will be shown at UCD School of Architecture in May 2015 and will travel to the Library at Maynooth University in October 2015.
This is a unique cross-disciplinary project that brings artistic and sociological insights together in the context of a community development initiative.
