The Department of Economics is delighted to announce the forthcoming appointment of Professor David Cuberes as Professor of Economics. Prof Cuberes is currently Professor of Economics at Clark University in the USA.
Prof Cuberes' research focuses on urban economics, economic growth and economic history. His research has analyzed the process of city growth across countries, the effects of wars on urban population and the factors that explain household location within a city. He has also worked on the aggregate effects of gender inequality, on the link between democracy and growth volatility and on the demographic transition. He has published in journals such as the Journal of Urban Economics, the Journal of Human Capital, Macroeconomic Dynamics and the Economic Journal.
After his undergraduate study at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Prof Cuberes did a Master’s in Economics and Finance at CEMFI (Madrid) and a PhD at the University of Chicago. He has done research and taught at Clemson University, Royal Holloway (UK), Universidad de Alicante (Spain), and the University of Sheffield (UK). He has also been a consultant for the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the Inter-American Development Bank.
Prof Cuberes will join Maynooth’s Economics Department in January 2025.
