
Dr Avril Brandon, Assistant Professor, Ashleigh Pillay, PhD Candidate, School of Law and Criminology and Professor Denis Bracken, University of Manitoba co-authored a new research report entitled, An Evidence Review on Ethnic Monitoring in the Criminal Justice System.
The study, commissioned by the Department of Justice, examines the implementation and use of ethnic monitoring within criminal justice systems. Drawing on interviews with professionals involved in ethnic monitoring across policing, prisons, probation, and victim services in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and England and Wales, the study explores the origins of ethnic monitoring, current practices in data collection and publication, and identifies key insights that Ireland can take from these jurisdictions.
