The Department of History’s Prof. Filipe Ribeiro de Meneses features in a major new reference work sponsored by the Portuguese Government which details the lives of all Portuguese Prime Ministers from 1820 to the present (Os Primeiros-Ministros de Portugal, 1820-2020). This three-volume work, edited by Fernando de Sousa e Conceição Meireles Pereira, contains 140 entries in total. Prof. Ribeiro de Meneses’ entry, on dictator António de Oliveira Salazar, who governed Portugal from 1932 to 1968,  is nearly ninety pages long and confirms his reputation as one of the leading experts on Salazar and his regime, the New State (Estado Novo).
