Education

Xu Wang received BSc in Physics from Zhejiang University, Master of Engineering in Electronics Engineering from the University of Electronics Science and Technology of China (UESTC) and Ph.D. degree in Electronics Engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

Teaching

Prof Wang has worked at UESTC, CUHK, Osaka University (Japan), NICT (Japan) and Heriot Watt University (UK) before joining Maynooth University as Deputy Head of the MIEC. He has over 25 years teaching experiences in higher education and has taught various courses at both UG and PG levels, and graduated over 100 project students (MSc, MEng, Beng) and many PhD/MPhil students.

Research  

Prof Wang has led over £10M research projects in UK, China and Japan, published over 220 papers, delivered over 40 keynote/invited speeches in international conferences and held 9 international patents. He has very broad international research collaborations and served as Distinguished Professor/Visiting Professor/Guest Researcher/Adviser for a number of universities and institutes in Chian and Japan. He has also served as General Chair/Steering Committee Chair/TPC Chair/TPC Member of numerous international conferences. Prof Wang has been awarded the prestigious Telecommunication Advancement Research Fellowship (2002-2004) by Telecommunication Advancement Organisation of Japan.
Prof Wang’s current research interests include high speed optical communication and ultra-fast imaging. He is particularly interested in AI applications in these fields.
