Professor John ffitch is a computer scientist, mathematician and composer. He was born in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England in 1945, and educated at Cambridge, where he obtained his undergraduate degree and completed his PhD. Areas of his research work include relativity, planetary astronomy, computer algebra and the Lisp language. He was the recipient of the 1975 Adams Prize for Mathematics. He is a former Chair of Software Engineering at Bath, having retired in 2011.
John ffitch is also the project leader for Csound at sourceforge, the development of which he has led since the early 1990s.
He and Dr. Victor Lazzarini (Senior Lecturer, Department of Music) have been collaborating on a major project since 2004 concerning the development and maintenance of the Csound programming language.
