FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
THE SECOND DOCTORAL CONFERENCE ON PUBLIC EDUCATION AND PUBLIC PEDAGOGY
10-14 May 2021
CENTRE FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION AND PEDAGOGY
MAYNOOTH UNIVERSITY, IRELAND

August 2020

In January 2020 we held the first doctoral conference on public education and pedagogy at the entre for Public Education and Pedagogy, Maynooth University, Ireland. The week-long event was enjoyable and intellectually stimulating, not least because all the participants had sufficient time to present their own work – which is quite different from big ‘hurried’ international conference – and ALSO because spending a week together on campus allowed for a more sustained conversation to evolve. January also turned out to be a rather quiet moment in the academic calendar, which also contributed to the atmosphere of the event.

We are keen to have another doctoral conference in the 2020-2021 academic year, but have concluded that January 2021 may be too soon, given how the current pandemic is evolving.

Our ambition, therefore, is to hold the second doctoral conference in May 2021, starting on Monday 10 May and concluding on Friday 14 May. This is an event where doctoral students can present their ongoing work on questions concerning public education and (public) pedagogy. We will issue a full announcement early in December 2020. This will include a call for presentations and a call for registration.
