Professor Michael Doherty spoke at The European Union in International Affairs 2016 Conference in Brussels on 11 – 13 May 2016. The Institute for European Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (IES-VUB), the Institut d’Études Européennes at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (IEE-ULB), the United Nations University Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS) and Egmont – the Royal Institute for International Relations biannually organise the ‘European Union in International Affairs’ (EUIA) Conference.
The panel on which Professor Doherty spoke was multidisciplinary and was entitled ‘Economic Crisis and Soci(et)al Values in a Global Economy’; it featured speakers from Finland, Australia, and Poland. He has published widely on the clash between economic and social rights in the EU, including his ao-authored piece ‘There Must Be Some Way Out of Here...The Crisis, Labour Rights and Member States in the Eye of the Storm' published in 2014 in the European Law Journal,
Professor Doherty is Head of Maynooth University Department of Law and lectures courses on Employment Law and Work & Employment in Europe on the LLB, as well as lecturing on the MA in Sociology (Work, Labour Markets and Employment) at Maynooth University. His recent work has focused on the impact of the crisis (and nascent recovery) on labour rights and labour market regulation.
