About

Joy Clarke is a Walsh scholar supported by Teagasc Agriculture and Food Development Authority (Project supervised by Dr. Helen Grogan (Teagasc), Dr. David Fitzpatrick & Prof. Kevin Kavanagh). Her project investigates the use of a Bacillus velezensis biocontrol agent as a treatment for Agaricus bisporus (white button mushroom) disease. The current use of chemical fungicides for the treatment of mushroom disease can be harmful both to human health and the environment. Establishing an environmentally friendly and effective biocontrol option for growers would improve the sustainability of mushroom growing in Ireland and globally.
