Student Skills and Success
Guide for Staff on Student Supports
Student Skills and Success, with contribution from Student Helpdesk, have created a guide and overview for Maynooth STAFF to help in addressing/referring student queries. These have been developed based on feedback received from staff in recent years.
Staff Newsletter
This bulletin provides key information on how you can support your students by ensuring they are aware of relevant advice, resources, and opportunities. Our goal is to help our students to thrive personally, academically, and professionally. We know that there are a lot of services on offer within Student Skills and Success and the Office for Students & Learning, and that many of our new Maynooth staff may not be fully aware of them all. We also know that you may be the first point of contact for a student and so through access to relevant resources, and facilitating collaborative initiatives, we aim to support you with the tools and knowledge needed to enable student success. You can access previous editions of the staff newsletter here (MU sign-on required).
"My Maynooth on Moodle" Online Orientation
"My Maynooth on Moodle" is Maynooth University’s online orientation delivered through the university’s Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle). This year-long course is released to first-year undergraduate students in advance of starting at Maynooth, allowing them to become familiar with the university experience before they arrive. It then takes on a monthly release schedule, providing students with the info they need when they need it. This document gives you more information along with details on how to access the course.
Academic Writing Support Information
Academic Writing Support works with students to give them the skills and knowledge needed for them to be able to tackle their academic writing with confidence. It does so by giving them practical advice on issues such as structuring, clarity of argument, and audience engagement through a peer-tutoring process. We offer one-to-one appointments and group sessions, and we can create bespoke academic writing workshops for staff members who wish us to talk to their students on topics such as reflective writing, exam preparation, and literature reviews. If you would like to point your students in the direction of our service, you can add our general information slide to your deck or you can send them the slide to their email address.
