Kate Phelan

About
Kate Phelan is a PhD student in Creative Writing at Maynooth University, where she is completing a creative nonfiction project exploring the writing of lost histories of familial mental illness.
Her work takes the form of a hybrid blend of memoir, cultural commentary, and literary biography, focusing heavily on the life and work of Maeve Brennan.
Kate is a former Hume Scholar and a recipient of the 2024 National University of Ireland Travelling Doctoral Studentship in Humanities. Her writing has been longlisted for the Seán Ó Faoláin Short Story Competition and published in Irish literary journals such as Banshee.
A portion of her writing will be included in an upcoming New Island anthology of essays in response to Maeve Brennan's work, due for publication in 2025.
