Dr Edel Fahy

Biography

Dr Edel Fahy is Assistant Professor in Arts Education in the Froebel Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education, Maynooth University, Ireland. Edel is also joint co-ordinator of Curriculum, Methodologies and Assessment module in the department. A PhD graduate from Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, Edel’s doctoral research investigated how an Irish arts initiative supported primary teachers in their teaching of arts education. A qualified primary teacher, Edel also holds a MEd in Drama in Education from Dublin City University (DCU) and a MA in Film and Television (DCU). 

Previous roles include working as a primary teacher; drama trainer with Primary Curriculum Support Programme (PCSP); arts education advisor with Primary Professional Development Service (PPDS); Head of Music in GEMS Wellington International School, Dubai, UAE; lecturer in Music Education (DCU); lecturer in Education (Hibernia College) and lecturer in Music and Drama Education (Froebel Department, Maynooth University, Ireland). 

Edel has published in national and international journals and disseminated her work at many conferences. She is a member of the National Council of Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) Arts Education development group, an active committee member of the Association of Drama in Education in Ireland (ADEI) and a member of the Society of Music Education in Ireland (SMEI). Edel is also a member of the International Drama in Education Association (IDEA). Edel’s research interests include creativity and the integrated arts, teacher professional development in arts education and arts partnerships in schools.
