Biography
Stephen Brown completed his Engineering degree at T.C.D. in 1992. After a year in the Computer Laboratory in U.C.D. he returned to Trinity to complete his M.Sc. which was sponsored by Digital, and received the RDS ASTRA award for collaboration between Universities and Industry. He then accepted an engineering position in Digital and spent the next 3 years working in Digital, Clonmel initially on factory automation and subsequently on networking product development. He then moved to Digital in Littleton, Massachussetts where he managed the development of a number of networking products, including Ethernet adapters and Network Routers. In 1993 he moved to a partner group in Reading, UK to continue managing the development of routing products. The following year he returned to academia, and spent a year in the DSG research group in TCD before moving to the Computer Science Department in Maynooth as director of the new M.Sc. in Software Engineering course. Since then he has been Acting Head of Department for 4 years, and Director of the Innovation Value Institute. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science, conducting research primarily into wireless sensor networks.
