Griffith College Dublin Victorious in Fifth Silken Thomas Moot Court Competition

After two intense days of mooting (27 - 28 March 2015), sixteen teams became two with Maynooth University and Griffith College Dublin fighting it out in the final! The final was presided over by the Honourable Mr Justice Paul Carney, who is a judge of High Court and Honorary Professor of Law at Maynooth University Department of Law. After prolonged deliberations, Griffith College were announced as the winners, by the slimmest of margins.

Congratulations are owed to Patricia Barber and Sinéad Mac Fhionnlaoich, the ultimate winners of competition, and to our very own Thomas Doolan (LLB 2015) who was awarded Best Speaker.

At this year's competition, Maynooth Law Society conferred lifetime membership and the title of Honorary Moot Court Convenor on Siobhán Buckley (LLB 2014) who has been the driving force behind the Silken Thomas Intervarsity Moot Court Competition for many years. Siobhán is currently training to be a barrister at the King's Inns. Both the final and the gala dinner, took place in the illustrious setting of Carton House.

The Department of Law was delighted to sponsor the event, along with leading law firm, Matheson; we place a strong focus on encouraging our students to engage in activities which give them a chance to put into practice what they learn in the lecture theatre. In addition, we also offer skills-based modules such as Moot Court, Advocacy, Legal Writing, Legal Skills, and Innovation in Professional Practice.
