Adult and Community Education

Why study Adult and Community Education

The Department of Adult and Community Education, Maynooth University works to create a learner-centred environment that is designed to meet the specific needs, interests and learning styles of adult students both here on campus and in our outreach venues across the country.
The Department provides a wide range of full and part-time programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In the social sciences certificate courses in Addiction/Recovery, Adult and Community Education, Community Development, Equality/Diversity or Disability studies are available.  In the arts Creative Writing for Publication and Directing for Theatre are popular.
The Higher Diploma in Further Education is a recognised course that provides people with the necessary qualification to teach in the post compulsory education sector.  The Postgraduate Diploma in Adult Guidance and Counselling allows people working in settings where communication and relationship building are key to develop their practice and incorporate new learning and new ways of thinking towards their clients.
Continuing Professional Development is an important aspect of adult education and certificate courses in Communication and Group Skills for Managers or Restorative Practice and Mediation, among others, offer people very valuable skills and knowledge that can be directly applied to their workplaces.
