Why study Psychology

During their time at Maynooth University, students gain a comprehensive understanding of psychology as a discipline, receiving a wide introduction before moving on to a steadily increasing depth of core concepts and theories. Students also have the opportunity to study abroad, and BSc students are able to spend one semester on work placement and one semester on a research internship (subject to availability). In the final year of the BA and BSc programmes, students complete an independent research project.

Emphasis throughout the degrees is on developing oral and written communication, literacy, information retrieval and critical thinking, in addition to specialist skills related to psychological research.

Practical research assignments will build your skills in teamworking, laboratory techniques and the use of statistical and research methodologies, which are highly valued in many areas of employment.
