Dr Emma Farrell

Biography
Dr Emma Farrell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology Maynooth University. In addition to being a Chartered Psychologist, Emma holds degrees in Public Health and Health Promotion, Education and a PhD from Trinity College Dublin in the philosophy of mental health. Emma’s research interests are in the lived experience of mental health and distress; interdisciplinary approaches to mental health and well-being; belonging; student mental health; philosophy of psychology, and; evidence for policy.
Emma is a former founding member of Jigsaw, Ireland’s National Centre for Youth Mental Health. She was appointed to the Government Taskforce for Youth mental Health in 2016 and is a former advisor to the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland and member of Council of Gaisce, The President’s Award. Emma is a current member of the Royal Irish Academy’s Young Academy Ireland where she served as inaugural Chair (2023-2024). Emma is author of ‘Making Sense of Mental Health: A Practical Approach through Lived Experience’ (The Liffey Press, 2022) and ‘Irish University Students with Mental Health Difficulties: Experiences, Challenges and Supports’ (Lived Places Publishing, 2024). https://www.thinkful.ie
