This is the official site for the activities associated with Maynooth University's commemoration of events between 1916 and 1922. As a university, we will be marking the key events in the revolutionary period that helped to shape the course of history and the development of an independent Ireland. This commemoration will take the form of exhibitions, readings, conferences, seminars, performances and gatherings that reflect on key moments, figures and themes from one hundred years ago.
The events have been organised through the Decade of Commemorations Committee and supported by generous funding from the University.
Maynooth University have adopted the theme of Women and the Revolution as our key focus for 2016 and a number of events have been organised reflecting on the contribution of women to the revolutionary period in Ireland's history. Funding for these events have been supplemented by a grant from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Reconciliation Funds which will facilitate an all-island approach to commemoration, further information here.
The University will be hosting interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary events that are free and open to the public. See here for event details.
