Student Teacher Placement in China
The Education Department has established an exciting Teaching Placement opportunity in China for student teachers from our department. In May 2016 the first group to participate in the experience travelled to China to teach for four weeks in Hailiang Cambridge International school. The school has become Maynooth’s teacher placement partner in Zhejiang province. The placement was facilitated by a generous subvention from the school. This exchange was established following an initial teacher education course offered in China by Mr. Keith Young and Ms. Angela Rickard in June 2015. Working with a Chinese partner, Guan Fei from Global Culture Exchange (http://szglobalculture.com) and in association with the International Office in Maynooth University.
The video below explores the impressions of the first cohort’s experiences. A further six students spent six weeks there in May/June 2017 and were accompanied for a few days during that time by the Head of Department Prof. Sharon Todd and School Partnership Coordinator Dr. Thomas Walsh. Plans are in place to expand the programme in the coming year with the addition of another school.
