The silverware Dublin football have amassed during Jim Gavins time in charge is unprecedented in GAA history. Six All-Irelands, seven Leinsters, five Allianz leagues have been won during his term in charge.
However, football hasn’t totally defined Jim Gavins life. At the same time, as he himself played for Dublin senior football team, winning an All-Ireland in 1995, he was employed as a military pilot on the Irish government jet. Appointed as the chief flying instructor in the Irish Aer Corps in his early-30s, he now works as an assistant director in the safety and regulation division of the Irish Aviation Authority.
Under Jim Gavin’s leadership, this team of amateur players have established themselves as the greatest football team ever, recently winning 5 All- Ireland titles in a row, under the scrutiny of a demanding public and mass media.
Lt Gen Dermot Earley DSM, Chief of Staff of the Irish Defence Forces, was a close associate of the Edward M Kennedy Institute and a member of the Institute’s International Council of Expert Advisers until his death in 2011.
